Happy Birthday B2!

Zurich, in March 2017.

The B2 Boutique Hotel + Spa in Zurich is 5 years old! Sleep where once, beer was brewed: The (hi)story on the Hürlimann Areal continues…

Since March of 2012 the B2 Boutique-Hotel + Spa, located in a former Hürlimann beer brewery, is not only a unique urban hotel but also one of the top destinations in Zurich for business guests, city tourists and architecture aficionados worldwide.

In these past five years, more than 40'000 guests were welcomed, as well as:

  • 10'000 bottles of wine from Zurich vineyards were uncorked in the Wine Library and 25'000 glasses of Hürlimann beer were served
  • 1'700 kilograms of cheese from the Swiss mountains were savoured
  • B2 Guest Ambassadors walked 11'100 kilometres accompanying guests to their rooms (that’s almost as far as walking from Zurich to New York and back)

The 5-year anniversary of the B2 will be celebrated starting this month with special offers and events with guests, partners and neighbours of the hotel. A special commemorative offer, addressing the 5 senses in a totally new way will soon be announced. The secret will be lifted in the coming weeks on the B2s website, Facebook-page and per newsletter.

Even after 5 years, the B2 Boutique Hotel + Spa remains unique among the hotels of Zurich. On one hand because of its singular (hi)story: modern architecture elements were integrated, and at the same time, the original charm of the building was preserved. On the other hand, the success of the hotel is due to its Selected Mind-Set service concept and individual Guest Ambassadors, which make of their mission to satisfy the guests wishes before they are spoken. That is why the hotel is current – and has been for a while – listed among the top 10 of 138 hotels in Zurich and is the winner of Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Award for 2017.

Despite its historic past, the B2 Boutique Hotel + Spa is always looking forward and strives to stay up to date in terms of hotel technology. A digital check-in app is being implemented and will allow guests to choose between a quick and easy self-check-in or a classic check-in at the reception desk. This will also give the Guest Ambassadors even more time to personally take care of the guests.

The B2s «Wine Library» is also celebrating birthday and will also get a present: It will receive the exclusive private collection of wine and cook books of the renowned Swiss author and wine journalist Bruno-Thomas Eltschinger. Guests of B2 are welcome to browse through these and all the other 33’000 books during their stay.

Background Hotel

The B2 Boutique Hotel + Spa, located in the former mash and cooler houses of the Hürlimann beer brewery offers 60 rooms and suites, two meeting rooms as well as the «Wine Library» with its astounding height of 11 meters, 33'000 books and tall chandeliers made of Hürlimann beer bottles. The machine hall of the former brewery is also part of the hotel and may be visited or rented as an event location.

Background History

The Hürlimann beer brewery went into operation in Zurich Sihlberg in 1867 and even had its own train stop in Zurich. With the introduction of the Linde ice machine it became the largest beer brewery in Switzerland. In 1996, it was decommissioned after 130 years of operation. In 2007 Google moved into the Hürlimann Areal and made Zurich its biggest research and development location outside of the continental United States. In 2008 work began in the remodelling of the building into the thermal bath & Spa Zurich and the B2 Boutique Hotel, both of which opened in 2011 respectively 2012.
